concept and Inspiration
After attending the stunning Ashmolean wedding showcase, the idea of this styled shoot was to prove that a historic venue doesn't have to limit your wedding creativity; it enhances it. The concept? A blend of modern meets traditional, capturing timeless elegance with a twist, by fusing a historical venue with contemporary wedding trends.
Inspired by the moon charger plate, our colour palette danced in muted tones of rose, blush and greys, accented with a pop of blue echoing the grand museum doors.
Venue
Nestled in the heart of Oxford, the Ashmolean, founded in 1683, is the world's oldest public museum. All the galleries are licensed for weddings and allow you to transform the space from intimate daytime ceremonies to breath taking exclusive hire evening receptions with access to the rooftop terrace.
Decor and Styling
The ceremony unfolded in the Atrium, we caught glimpses of the bride as she made her way down the impressive architectural staircase. The intimate ceremony was surrounded by the statues of Apollo and Ofra Meitar. Nestled between them, a circular setup with a beautiful floral nest and Louis chairs, accompanied by the elegant tunes of a harpist.
The reception was held in the Sculpture Gallery among 17th century Greek and Roman sculptures, it featured linked round tables to create a modern feel within a historic setting. The central florals and candles made the perfect centrepieces. The tableware brought the look together with the pop of blue from the napkins and water glasses. Hand-carved egg favours, calligraphy menus and place cards added a personal touch and unique twist. The textural cake sat on a table of flower meadows and continued the tonal colour theme.
Lighting
A naturally dark venue on a winter's evening was perfectly lit with warm battery LED uplighters, colour changeable and completely wireless. Your overall wedding look can be changed from day to evening with ease.
Fashion and Beauty
The breath taking “Miata” dress by Eva Lendel took centre stage and excluded red carpet vibes with intricate lace, transparent sequins, ivory beading and a detachable long train overskirt. The groom's dark navy suit brought refined sophistication. Classic Hollywood waves transitioned into a glamorous evening up do for a timeless yet modern look.
Photography and Videography
The Ashmolean has so many amazing photo spots, from the main entrance with striking door, Taylorian porch, grand staircase, Egyptian and cast galleries.
Ellie captured the magic in stunning photographs, while Blaise's behind-the-scenes video showcased the incredible collaboration.
